‘3G+’ for Orange users later this month

7 Jun 2007

Orange Romania will launch 3.5G HSDPA mobile services under the ‘3G+’ brand in ten cities on 25 June, upping data speeds for existing users of its UMTS/EDGE network whilst keeping tariffs the same, the company announced in a statement. Orange Romania had 430,000 3G subscribers at the end of March 2007; rival Vodafone Romania had 298,000 at the end of December 2006 (less than Orange’s 383,000 at that date), according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database. Orange aims to double its number of 3G clients this year, according to its commercial manager Thierry Millet. Vodafone Romania launched HSDPA services in Bucharest in October 2006, and had expanded the service

to 23 cities by the beginning of this month.
