China Mobile to seek bids for TD-SCDMA phones in October

China Mobile Communications Corp, parent of the world’s largest wireless operator by subscribers, will seek bids for as much as RMB6 billion (USD784 million) worth of TD-SCDMA handsets in October. About 20 handset makers including Motorola, Samsung, ZTE and Huawei are expected to bid to supply two to three million handsets, Chen Haofei, secretary general of industry group TD- SCDMA Forum, said. The TD-SCDMA Forum was formed in December 2000 by eight companies to promote and develop the use of the technology. The companies are China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom, Datang Telecom, Huawei Technologies, Motorola, Nortel Networks and Siemens.
