Choice Cable upgrades network

5 Jun 2007

Puerto Rican cableco Choice Cable has upgraded its cable network to offer its customers enhanced video on demand (VoD) services via a newly installed backbone network which uses nWave optical equipment manufactured and installed by OpVista. The nWave system gives Choice Cable a point-to-multipoint 40 wavelength DWDM network, to support rapidly growing customer demand for high-bandwidth video, IP- and Ethernet-based applications. Choice Cable, a subsidiary of US investment firm Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst, is the dominant cable TV operator in 30 municipalities in the south and west of Puerto Rico; it also had around 10,000 high speed internet subscribers at the end of 2006.
