Reports from Taiwan suggest that Hutchison Telecommunications International and Intel are both planning to join forces with WiMAX licence winners after the government’s forthcoming 2.5GHz spectrum auction. XFN Asia quotes local newspaper Commercial Times which claims that Hong Kong-based Hutchison is looking at taking an unspecified stake in an established Taiwanese telco should that company win a WiMAX concession. Intel, meanwhile, is said to be considering tie-ups with two or three separate licence winners. Six regional WiMAX concessions are due to be awarded by the end of this month, three covering the north of the country and three the south. More details of WiMAX licensing and deployments can be found in TeleGeography’s WiMAX Market Tracking Service.
