Clearwire completes USD300m acquisition of 2.5GHz spectrum

1 Jun 2007

Kirkland-based Clearwire Corp has completed its USD300 million purchase of wireless spectrum in the 2.5GHz band from AT&T Inc. (including BellSouth). San Antonio-based AT&T offloaded the frequencies as a condition of its 2006 merger with BellSouth Corp. The spectrum in question was previously owned by BellSouth for use across its nine-state area of operations. As a result of the purchase – and other pending transactions – Clearwire now has spectrum rights covering around 223 million of the US population.
