WiMAX network for Ulm region

31 May 2007

German telecoms operator NeckarCom Telekommunikation, a subsidiary of power company EnBW, has signed a deal with US vendor Motorola for the provision of a 3.5GHz WiMAX network in the Ulm region in Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany’s third largest state. The network will allow NeckarCom to offer high speed services to homes and SMEs in areas currently underserved by fixed line broadband alternatives. The first stage of the network rollout, beginning immediately, will offer subscribers broadband data services. Within the next few weeks, access to voice over internet protocol (VoIP) services will be added. The contract follows a successful trial in selected communities. NeckarCom plans to expand the service across the entire region upon completion of the initial phase.
