Local news source VietNamNet Bridge reports that the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) will be launching a provincial fixed wireless phone service, branded GPhone, on 31May 2007. The service will allow customers to use fixed phone services without having to install a cable, providing their houses are located in an area covered by VNPT’s Vinaphone cellular network. The GSM service will be available to customers in all cities and provinces except Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and is initially restricted to post-paid subscribers. VNPT has become the third firm after EVN Telecom and Viettel to provide fixed wireless services. EVN Telecom has signed up over 500,000 subscribers in the two years it has offered the service, named E-Com.
