China Mobile to buy two million TD-SCDMA handsets

Xinhua news agency reports that China is expected to invest at least RMB4 billion (USD519 million) buying TD-SCDMA handsets in October 2007, ahead of the issuing of 3G licences. Citing Chen Haofei, secretary general of TD-SCDMA Forum, the report states that the largest cellco by subscribers, China Mobile, will purchase two million TD-SCDMA handsets. The operator has already paid between RMB6 billion and RMB7 billion in acquiring TD-SCDMA network infrastructure for ten cities.
