Magyar Telekom announces fixed line reshuffle

29 May 2007

Magyar Telekom has announced plans to absorb two of its fixed line units into its T-Com division. Under the plan, its wholly owned Emitel subsidiary, which operates 72,000 lines in three concession areas in southern Hungary, will be integrated into T-Com. The second part of the plan will see Magyar Telekom hiving off the access business of T-Online Hungary to create a distinct internet access segment and a content segment. The former, which will include ADSL, dial-up, IPTV and VoIP operations, will be merged into the operator’s fixed line business, while the remaining segment will focus on media and content. The proposals are subject to approval at an AGM on 29 June, says Thomson Financial.
