Filipino telecoms operator Digital Telecommunications Philippines Inc (Digitel) is to spend up to USD250 million in expanding its network and rolling out 3G mobile services by early 2008. In addition, the operator plans to ramp up its fixed line and broadband networks via its own finances and external loans. Digitel says it has allocated around USD200 million to deploy 800 3G cell sites at its mobile arm Digitel Mobile (Sun Cellular). Meanwhile, Digitel’s fixed line unit intends to invest between USD40 million and USD50 million in its own expansion programme to enhance the provision of broadband services.
