Telecoms sector grows 13.9% in first quarter of 2007

According to statistics published by the country’s central bank, quoted by BNamericas, Chile’s telecoms sector grew 13.9% during the first quarter of 2007, the highest rate of any industry in the economy. The growth was primarily fuelled by gains in the mobile telephony sector and subscription TV and internet access. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, at the end of 2006 Chile’s wireless penetration stood at 80.2% while broadband penetration was 6.4%, the highest in the Latin America region.
