BNamericas, quoting consultancy IDC, reports that Argentine telecoms operators could expand investment in fixed line networks by nearly 14% this year, compared to USD180 million in 2006. Diego Anesini, an analyst at IDC, said investment will go mainly into broadband and upgrades of platforms to next generation networks (NGN). Fixed line infrastructure in Argentina was one of the highest across the region last year, according to IDC. WiMAX technology experienced the fastest growth in investment last year in the sector, increasing 140% compared to 2005, while spending in NGNs grew 10%. ’Investment in WiMAX accounted for nearly 2% of total investment in fixed networks…we expect this technology will continue growing this year although the level of WiMAX deployments is still low,’ Anesini said.
