FT accuses Canal Plus of anti-competitive practices

21 May 2007

French incumbent telecoms operator France Telecom (FT) has filed a complaint with the EU Commission alleging anti-competitive practises in the domestic pay-TV market by Canal Plus. Thomson Financial writes that FT has complained that its mobile arm Orange has not been authorised to provide Canal Plus mobile services, unlike its rival SFR, which is a subsidiary of Canal Plus shareholder Vivendi. FT also complains that it has no ‘lasting agreement’ in place allowing it to broadcast channels provided by AB, a unit of TF1 (and another Vivendi subsidiary), via its internet television service Livebox.
