Anatel says Net Serviços can acquire Vivax

18 May 2007

The Brazilian telecoms regulator Anatel has approved CATV provider Net Serviços’ acquisition of rival local pay-TV operator Vivax, writes BNamericas citing a statement from Net. The cableco agreed a deal to buy a 36.7% stake in Vivax from Horizon Telecom International in October 2006. The transaction was completed in December subject to the regulator’s approval. Now it has the green light, Net can gain full control of Vivax and boost its market share in the pay-TV market from 39% to 46%. The takeover will give Net access to the densely populated São Paulo state, where Vivax has concession licenses for 34 towns and cities and is the sole cable TV operator in 32 of them.
