NTT East blames network blackout on equipment failure

NTT East Corp, a division of NTT, yesterday said a massive cascade failure in its transmission network was responsible for the widespread disruption of internet services to more than 2.39 million customers. The outage hit at 6.45pm local time and was only resolved at 1.30am, after data transmission equipment was rebooted, the company said in a statement. NTT East said many of its services were disrupted including its B Flets fibre-optic service, ADSL broadband and ISDN products. It has received more than 10,000 complaints from users.
