AOL is planning to launch an aggressive global expansion this year in 14 major markets. The company hopes to introduce a new version of its e-mail service in the summer with AIM instant messaging included. Parent company Time Warner is also looking to update its web portal and launch new ones in 14 markets over the next 18 months as part of a focus on the global market. AOL offloaded its European dial-up and internet businesses last year in a major revamp of its operations. It has already launched new portals in India, Austria and the Netherlands, and will launch revamped versions in France, the UK and Germany, with more markets to follow – possibly including China, where it hopes to establish a new office.
