EU backs UKE’s stance on fixed telephony market

16 May 2007

The European Commission (EC) has endorsed the Polish telecoms regulator’s amended stance on the market for access to fixed telephony services. On 13 March the EC told the regulator, Urzad Regulacji Elektronicznej (UKE), that broadband access services should not be included in its definition of the market. The commission also called on UKE to enforce regulation at wholesale level to improve competition in the Polish broadband market. The UKE’s modified definition excludes all retail broadband services, and the regulator has undertaken to impose measures at wholesale level, the commission said.
