Taiwan’s Asia Pacific Telecom Group (APTG) has selected equipment from Alvarion for an 802.16e Mobile WiMAX deployment in the city of TaiChung. The network is part of the government’s M-Taiwan initiative which is aimed at improving broadband availability. The system will operate in the 2.5GHz band.
Meanwhile, Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has signed a memorandum of understanding with three equipment suppliers to work with local vendors on the development of WiMAX systems. NEC of Japan, Nortel of Canada and Rhode and Schwarz of Germany have been chosen as partners and will set up a lab to help Taiwanese manufacturers become globally competitive in the WiMAX marketplace.
