According to the Macedonian Electronic Communications Agency, six firms have expressed an interest in bidding for the country’s fourth mobile licence. The companies to have submitted a letter of interest are believed to include two unnamed domestic concerns, and four international ones, drawn from India, Russia, Switzerland and Germany. The regulator published its intention to search for a fourth mobile operator on 3 April and set a deadline of 10 May for applications. It is looking to beef up competition in the mobile market which is dominated by T-Mobile Macedonia (formerly MobiMak) and Cosmofon. A third player, Austria’s Mobilkom, is due to enter the market in September.
