Italy’s communications authority Agcom has set forth the terms by which new 15-year licences for WiMAX frequencies will be awarded. The regulator will issue three 2×21MHz concessions for each geographical area, of which one which will be reserved for a market newcomer that does not already hold frequencies for wireless or mobile data services. The geographical area in the first two lots to be tendered will include two to four regions. The third lot, reserved for new entrants, will have a regional base in order to promote services aimed at local requirements. The frequencies will be awarded to the highest bidder, with the Ministry of Communications setting the minimum price.
