Italy’s second largest telecoms operator by subscribers in both wireline and wireless sectors, Wind, has reported its 1Q2007 results. Net profit was EUR7 million (USD9.5 million), compared to EUR15 million for the same period last year, despite a year-on-year increase in quarterly turnover of 10.2% to EUR1.27 billion. EBITDA for the first quarter was also up 11.3% compared to 1Q2006, reaching EUR428 million. Wind’s mobile subscriber base grew to 15.2 million by 31 March 2007, and ARPU for the sector grew to EUR18.5 from EUR17.8 in Q12006, notwithstanding the developments in the regulatory scenario with a reduction in mobile termination rates from July 2006 and the abolishment of mobile top-up recharge fees from 5 March 2007. Direct access fixed line customers reached 1,144,000, and broadband subscribers reached 847,000.
