MVNO market share inches up to 3.42%, says regulator

French regulator Arcep has reported that MVNOs added 320,000 net new users in the first quarter of 2007, reaching a total subscriber base of 1.71 million at the end of March. According to Arcep’s figures, the additions gave MVNOs a 3.42% share of a total of 50.11 million retail mobile subscriptions in France. In the first quarter, total retail subscribers to mobile network operators fell by 17,200 to 48.4 million. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, the first MVNO to launch services in the country was debitel France in July 2004, and other virtual operators present in the market include Tele2, neuf Cegetel, Carphone Warehouse and Virgin Mobile.
