Telkomsel reports rising profits in Q1

2 May 2007

Indonesia’s largest mobile phone operator by subscribers, PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel), has reported net profits of just under IDR3 trillion (USD330.3 million) in the three months to 31 March 2007, up 8% from IDR2.79 trillion in Q12006, largely driven by a strong rise in subscribers. Telkomsel, which is owned by Telkom Indonesia (65%) and Singapore Telecommunications (35%), reported 41.9 million mobile users at the start of April this year, a 44% rise on the corresponding period a year ago. ‘Despite the intensifying competition, Telkomsel has sustained strong customer base growth in the first quarter of 2007,’ Telkomsel said in a press statement.
