University of Liberia receives USD2.5m for ICT centre; Cisco promises to install new national network for the LTC

Liberia’s sole state run university has been awarded USD2.5 million by the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to set up an ICT centre on the main campus in Monrovia. US equipment supplier Cisco provided the new hardware for the centre and has also promised to install a national network at the national incumbent, the Liberia Telecommunications Corporation (LTC), open and ICT training academy and provide humanitarian support to the needy and promote sustainable development. Cisco plans to set up a permanent presence in Liberia after signing a memorandum of understanding with the government. It intends to forge a working relationship with the LTC and other ICT partners to make communications services more accessible throughout Liberia.
