Ericsson wins mobile softswitch contract to update Smart's satellite network

In a press release, Ericsson says it has been selected by Filipino operator Smart Communications to enhance the switching capacity of the latter’s satellite-based telephony network, SMART Link. The Swedish vendor will install its Mobile Softswitch Solution at Smart’s earth station in Subic Bay near Manila, increasing capacity and giving consumers greater reach and access to data services. The upgrade will allow Smart, the only company in the Philippines offering satellite-based mobile services, to provide greater access to the recently launched Inmarsat I-4 satellite.
