Alltel Corp has revealed that first quarter net income fell 23% despite strong subscriber growth. The company, which divested its wireline operations in July 2006 leaving it purely as a wireless operator, serves nearly twelve million customers across 35 states. It reported net income of USD230.1 million for the three months ending 31 March, compared with USD297.4 million for the corresponding period in 2006. Revenues rose 13% to USD2.08 billion from USD1.84 billion. Alltel said its blended churn rate for the period, 1.77%, was a company record low, and that ARPU climbed 2% to USD52.5 on the back of strong data ARPU growth of 64% to USD4.7.
