On 4 May Lycamobile will launch an international pre-paid mobile service for consumers in Belgium via an MVNO agreement with Mobistar. Lycamobile claims it will offer its customers high international call quality with the benefit of low call and SMS rates. Lycamobile users will be required to insert a SIM card into their existing mobile handset, which will instantly enable them to make calls and send SMS nationally and internationally. Customers will be able top up their balances from an extended network of over 5,000 shops across Belgium.
Lycamobile is already operating in the Netherlands, where it claims to be the fastest growing international mobile brand with over 150,000 customers signing up in its first seven months of operations. Lycamobile will eventually be rolled out across Europe via strategic partnerships with other mobile network operators in Germany, Spain, Italy and Switzerland.
