Deutsche Telekom ‘may be target’ - CEO

27 Apr 2007

German incumbent Deutsche Telekom (DT) could become a takeover target for financial investors, which in turn could mean structural changes, its CEO Rene Obermann has said. ‘I wouldn’t rule out that [DT] could become the object of takeover scenarios if we don’t succeed in raising company value the coming years,’ said Obermann, adding that one possible consequence of a takeover could be the breakup of the company, as active investors can force a change in company strategy. DT is the biggest earning telco in Europe, with a total turnover of EUR61.3 billion (USD77 billion) from domestic and international operations in 2006.
