Azercell breaks 2.5 million barrier

Azerbaijani cellco Azercell has reported signing up its 2,500,000th customer. It was established in 1996 as a joint venture between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and national PTO AzTelekom. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, it launched the country’s first EDGE services in November 2005 and plans to have made the technology available to the whole country by the end of 2007.
