Telkom orders WiMAX

26 Apr 2007

South African telco Telkom has engaged the services of Israeli vendor Alvarion to help deploy a WiMAX network. Telkom wants to launch WiMAX to boost access to broadband internet services in a country where fixed networks are patchy. Rival operator Neotel is also developing a WiMAX network. Telkom started trials of the technology with 400 cutomers last month and aims to launch the product in May, targeting customers who do not already subscribe to ADSL internet services via their phone line.
