Dominican Republic regulator Instituto Dominicano de las Telecomunicaciones (Indotel) has said in a statement that it has formed a committee to regulate and direct the awarding of all private concession projects in the telecoms sector. The committee will also be responsible for handling state purchases of telecoms equipment for the public sector. BNamericas states that the formation of the committee is the first step the watchdog has taken in accordance with the requirements of the free trade agreement signed with the US and Central America (DR-Cafta) that came into being on 1 March 2007.
