DoCoMo to build 20% more base stations

Japan’s leading mobile operator by subscribers NTT DoCoMo plans to up the number of base stations on its 3G mobile network by 20% to around 57,000 in fiscal 2007-08, writes the Nikkei without citing sources. The company plans to spend around JPY750 billion (USD6.32 billion) on capital investment in the current fiscal year, of which four-fifths will be used to install new base stations. By the end of March 2007 DoCoMo’s FOMA network numbered 46,000 base stations, up 50% year-on-year.
