China 3G standards and licensing ‘decided’

23 Apr 2007

China plans to make W-CDMA and CDMA2000 official standards ‘soon’, according to Xinhua News Agency citing a senior government official. In early 2006 China’s home-grown technology, TD-SCDMA, was made an official standard and whether or not W-CDMA and CDMA2000 would also be sanctioned has been a source of much speculation ever since. Xi Guohua, vice minister at the Ministry of Information Industry (MII), was quoted as saying that the 3G standards have been decided on, as well as the number of 3G licences to be issued.
