UK-based telecoms group BT has entered into an agreement to acquire Comsat International, a provider of data communication services for corporations and public sector organisations in Latin America. Closing of the transaction is subject to regulatory and anti-trust clearances and the satisfaction of other conditions. No financial details were disclosed. François Barrault, President of BT International, said the acquisition represents a milestone in the execution of BT’s strategy of well targeted acquisitions around the world. According to an audit on 31 December 2005, the gross assets of Comsat were USD145 million.
