NCC confirms payment of 3G licences

Nigerian regulator the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has confirmed receipt of the USD150 million licence fee from each of the four successful applicants that were recently awarded 3G concessions. Existing cellcos Celtel Nigeria, MTN Nigeria, Globacom and newcomer Alheri Engineering are now fully licensed to provide UMTS services. Celtel and Globacom have already stated publicly that they have tested the technology on their networks.
