Japan’s largest multiple system operator (MSO) by subscribers, Jupiter Telecommunications Co (J:COM), has announced that its 24 managed franchises had a total of 2.64 million subscribing households as at 31 March 2007, up 484,000, or 22.4%, on the corresponding period of 2006. J:COM attributed the increase to organic growth and the effects of newly consolidated franchises in new service areas. By the start of this month the operator had 4.58 million combined revenue generating units (RGUs) for cable television, high speed internet access and telephony services, up 830,600 or 22.2% year-on-year. The bundle ratio (average number of services received per subscribing household) stood at 1.73 as of 31 March 2007 compared to 1.74 as of 31 March 2006. J:COM also reported more than 2.19 million cable TV subscribers (including 1.21 million digital subscribers), up from 1.81 million a year earlier. The number of high speed internet users stood at 1.16 million (931,600), and telephony subscribers topped 1.21 million (1.01 million), up 20.4% year-on-year.
