17 Apr 2007

France Télécom (FT) has announced that its subsidiary Jordan Telecom Group has acquired a 51% stake in Bahraini alternative telco Lightspeed Communications. Jordan Telecom, itself 51% owned by FT, plans to use its financial strength and expertise to assist Lightspeed in this summer’s planned launch of triple-play voice, video and internet/data services. Lightspeed is licensed to provide fixed line telephony, and is focused on IP-based services including VoIP, video-on-demand and corporate data centre provision. Jordan Telecom first announced that it intended to take over Lightspeed in October 2006.
