Antel signs Ericsson contract to boost broadband

13 Apr 2007

Ericsson has revealed that it has signed an agreement with Antel to supply the Uruguayan telco with microwave and optical broadband network solutions to expand the capacity of broadband services. ‘We have chosen Ericsson because their microwave transmission and optical solutions efficiently meet our need for modernisation of the transmission and transport network, and support the necessary voice and data traffic required by our customers,’ Antel CEO José Luis Saldías said. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, the maximum downlink speed for a broadband network in Uruguay is 1Mbps, slower than the speeds in neighbouring countries, and something Antel hopes to address.
