ETC reveals five-year plan

The Ethiopian Telecommunications Corporation (ETC) has revealed a five-year strategic plan that will see it invest ETB37 billion (USD4.34 billion) in expanding its fixed and wireless networks. Strategic Planning Deputy General Manger Worku Mulualem, is quoted in local press as saying that the investment will raise the number of fixed lines in service from the current one million to 4.4 million, while the number of wireless subscribers will increase from 1.5 million to ten million. The ETC also expects to extend its 14,000km fibre-optic backbone to 40,000km over the same timeframe.
