World Bank helps fund network development

The World Bank has approved a USD164.5 million financing package to help boost internet connectivity in Kenya, Burundi and Madagascar. The deal is part of the Regional Communications Infrastructure Programme (RCIP), a USD424 million plan which will bring affordable high speed internet access to more than 20 countries in eastern and southern Africa by improving international links. Under the first phase, USD114.4 million will be invested in Kenya, USD30 million in Madagascar and USD20.1 million in Burundi.
