Telecom Argentina exits directory business, Telmex wants in

Fixed line operator Telecom Argentina has agreed to sell its telephone directory business Publicom to Spanish firm Yell Publicidad for USD60.8 million, reports BNamericas quoting local newspaper La Nación. The company expects to close the deal by 12 April. Publicom, which prints three million directories annually, will add to Yell’s existing directory business in Argentina, Páginas Doradas. According to the report, Mexican telco Telmex has also targeted the directory sector in Argentina and plans to launch a service called Páginas Telmex in November. Telmex provides fixed line services in Argentina under the Metrored Holdings umbrella, and owns majority stakes in alternative corporate telephony and data services provider Telmex Argentina, corporate services operator Techtel and integrated services company Metrored, amongst others.
