Altimo and TeliaSonera’s asset talks break down

2 Apr 2007

Altimo, the telecoms arm of Russian conglomerate Alfa, and Scandinavian telco TeliaSonera have suspended talks over the exchange of assets. The parties fail to reach an agreement on several points, including the size of the stakes to be included in a proposed swap. Experts familiar with the matter say Altimo will have to sell the Swedish group its shares not only in Russian cellco MegaFon and Turkey’s Turkcell but also in Russia’s second largest mobile operator Vimpelcom to get the 17% stake in TeliaSonera that it is aiming for.
