Viettel to launch by year-end

30 Mar 2007

Viettel, a telecoms operator owned and run by the Vietnamese military, has announced that it will be launching mobile services in neighbouring Cambodia by the end of 2007. Last December Viettel was granted a 30-year concession to operate in the 1800MHz band by the Cambodian regulator, the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPT). A Viettel spokesman said that before services could be launched, the company would have to complete the USD27 million infrastructure construction in Cambodia, adding that it was also expecting to receive an official licence soon to provide landline services there too.
