NRJ Mobile cements position in buoyant French MVNO market

30 Mar 2007

NRJ Mobile, owned by Paris-based multimedia firm NRJ GROUP, ended 2006 with more than 312,000 users (nearly 390,000 today), cementing its position in a burgeoning French MVNO market which numbered 1.4 million customers at the start of this year. NRJ says its mobile arm’s operational loss reached EUR24.2 million in 2006 – its first full year of development – and that after factoring in the group’s 118 333 telephone information business, the current operational loss for all telephony activities was EUR32.8 million. Nonetheless, the group is targeting around a million net new additions by end-2008, and hopes to capitalise on its 50:50 partnership with the Crédit Mutuel-CIC Group, signed at the start of the year, most notably through the latter’s network of 5,000 branches. NRJ Mobile plans to launch a post-paid offering in spring 2007 and hopes to break even by 2010 at the latest. NRJ Mobile launched in the fourth quarter of 2005 having signed a network sharing agreement with SFR allowing it to use the network operator’s 2G and 3G infrastructure.
