29 Mar 2007

Telkom South Africa is reportedly close to launching its first WiMAX wireless broadband services. News24.com reports that a launch can be expected in May, with the telco embarking on its final pre-commercial trials with 400 customers this week. The trial of a 512kbps service is being conducted with three ISPs: Telkom Internet, Mweb and Internet Solutions. WiMAX is expected to lead to a rapid take-up in broadband internet services, with the wireless system offering high speed internet access in areas which are currently not covered by wired ADSL networks.
