BNamericas reports that Argentine ISP Ertach, currently in the process of being acquired by Mexican telecoms giant Telmex, is expecting to launch mobile WiMAX services this year. Marketing manager for the company, Ezequiel López, said, ‘We will become the first operator in the country to provide such service, which will be oriented to the SME segment not for the residential segment.’ The new service will initially be available in the cities of Buenos Aires, Rosario and Córdoba. Ertach is also aiming at migrating 70% of its existing network to fixed WiMAX by the end of 2007. Currently its infrastructure comprises 180 base stations, of which 60 use WiMAX technology. Coverage extends to 200 cities in 17 provinces nationwide.
