HanseNet and Telefónica expand DSL reach

28 Mar 2007

German cellco Telefónica Deutschland and ISP HanseNet have extended their partnership for the provision of DSL services. Since early 2006, HanseNet’s Alice broadband service has used Telefónica’s infrastructure in addition to its own to make its product more widely available. Telefónica, which operates in Germany under the O2 moniker, is planning for its broadband network to access around 60% of German homes by ‘mid-year’, by which time it will have 2,500 local exchanges capable of supporting ADSL2+ triple-play services. HanseNet is intending to launch mobile phone services in the future and has concluded an exclusive contract with Telefónica for this purpose.
