27 Mar 2007

Verizon Wireless has awarded a USD6 billion network expansion contract to its primary infrastructure supplier, Alcatel-Lucent. The three-year deal will expand the reach of Verizon’s CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Revision A networks and will also cover the introduction of new services such as voice-over-IP, push-to-x and mobile video telephony. Verizon, the country’s second largest cellular operator with 59.05 million subscribers at the end of December, is upgrading its entire national network to an IP-based platform.
