Brazilian mobile operators Telemig Celular, Claro and Oi have each won lots to provide mobile services in 420 municipalities in Minas Gerais state that are currently without coverage, writes BNamericas citing local press reports. The region’s four licensed operators – TIM Brasil, Claro, Oi and Telemig – competed for the frequency on offer, with only TIM Brasil emerging unsuccessful. It is understood that Claro offered BRL54 million (USD26 million) to establish services in 154 towns and villages in the central-west and eastern parts of the state. Oi bid a similar amount to cover a further 151 municipalities in the region, while Telemig Celular offered BRL55.5 million to deliver services in 134 areas in the region’s southern, northern and Triângulo Mineiro areas.
