Unicel’s licence bid gets the thumbs up from Anatel committee

20 Mar 2007

A licensing committee appointed by the Brazilian telecoms regulator Anatel has approved a bid by local firm Unicel do Brasil Telecomunicações (Unicel) for a GSM mobile licence in the São Paulo metropolitan area, reports BNamericas citing a statement from the regulator. The Anatel board will still need to give the final green light for Unicel to become the city’s fourth operator alongside Vivo, TIM and América Móvil’s Claro unit. Unicel was the sole bidder for this licence with an offer of USD45 million. It aims to start operations in 120 days from securing the final approval.
